Bishop Thorp College

The journey of thousand miles begins with a single step. We retrace our foot steps to the year 1984. When there was no sign of a college to pursue higher education in Dharapuram and its 40 kms radius. Dharapuram being an educationally and economically backward area was yearing for higher educational opportunity.

Considering the need for higher education the former Bishop Rt.Rev.Dr.R.paulraj took great effort to start “Bishop Thorp College” affiliated to the Bharathiar University in 1984 – under the C.S.I Trichy- Tanjore Diocese. Thus “Bishop Thorp College” (Co-Education) Emerged as the “First Self-Financing College” in Tamil Nadu.

The College Motto is “To Serve and not to be Served”. It caters the educational needs of the poor and downtrodden sector for the past 29 years with very low fees. In the Current Educational Scenario, the College views Education as a service to mankind. The college does not collect any donation or Capitation fee but only very low fees based on merit and financial condition of the Students. The College concentrates on discipline, spiritual nourishment and all round development of the students.

Bishop Thorp College, with the inspiration of God’s Love, has a vision to cater the higher educational needs of the society, especially to the poor and marginally weak students of the entire surroundings to facilitate the holistic development and to mould them as socially responsible citizens.

Bishop Thorp College strives in enhancing the wholesome development of the student’s abilities in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities by providing the students with ample opportunities for their creativity and talent exposure To encounter the challenges of the competitive world by the improvisation of provisional skills with state of the art infrastructure.
